Then I was full of wonder at what he said and, wanting him to say still more, I stirred him up saying: “Cephalus, when you say these things, I suppose that the many do not accept them from you, but believe rather that is not due to character that you bear old age so easily but due to possessing great substance. They say that for the rich there are many consolations.” I interpreted that Socrates heard wisdom when Cephalus was speaking because of his status in life. He stated that he is wise but not because of his age where experience would stem from. It is mainly because of his character and social position in life.

  1. Good start to your blog here! Cephalus is respected by all the characters as an elderly man, but he has to leave the dialogue so the others can dig deeper without any kind of restraints
